What Our Clients Are Saying

Before Moxie Barbell, I was struggling with adherence towards changing the way I was eating and I wasn't seeing the results I wanted to for the lifting I was doing. Carly was able to increase my motivation to actually change the way I ate without making me feel like I was giving up on anything. We made changes little by little which made it so easy to try and eat better and we were able to integrate and make the changes attainable for my day-to-day life.

Now I feel capable of really tackling anything on the day-to-day while feeling like I can live a healthy life without being super restricted. I feel like I can eat healthy, keep satiated, and feel really good about myself while still enjoying LIFE.

I thought that I didn't really need to change anything and that even if I wanted to it was going to be super hard. However, Carly completely changed my life; I have more energy, strength and self confidence than ever before!

I’ve been an avid fitness enthusiast through self-discovery for around 10 years now but I’ve always struggled with not knowing what I should be doing for nutrition. From bad advice on the internet and even from past trainers, I'd often find myself starving at 1200 cals/day and not seeing results I wanted despite being extremely diligent.

Working with Carly led me to the first time in my life that I could remember, feeling that I am given permission to eat more and that it was 110% okay to do that. Through more and more mindset changes thanks to Carly's clever and objective science-based coaching, I feel like I've become, and am still growing into, a much better version of myself that I wish I was able to make such progress on 10 years ago.

  • ~I used to be someone who would not go outside because the idea of putting on pants was too much -- now I go out for small daily walks fairly easily.

  • ~I'm now gradually making progress toward my body fat % sustainably while bouncing between 1800-2100 cals/day (no less!).

  • ~I used to average 5-6 hours of sleep on weekdays and yo-yo hard into 10-hour crashes over the weekend. Now I'm getting more consistent at 7 hours of sleep.

This isn't just about diet and exercise -- this is life. Carly in my experience, is a lifestyle coach who has successfully helped my mindset shift and establish healthy habits that promote me to get to the goals I want.

When I first came into coaching I was struggling with maintaining consistency with healthy habits. I would try a fad diet for a few weeks and then give up and gain all the weight back plus more. Coaching with Carly is a worlds of a difference from everything I had ever done in the past (Weightwatchers, noom, fitness classes, etc.) She has so much more of a holistic view on healthy living and it is so much more attainable than anything I have tried before. Carly is with you every step of the way and you start with small, attainable things that made me feel confident to show up and crush it in the gym!

I started drinking more water, sleeping better, reading for pleasure again, and started getting excited to go to the gym for my new workout block. I truly didn't think it would be possible to shift my mindset THIS much and for this long! Carly is realistic and kind, but also tells me when I should push the weight and gives me the tough love I need to keep going. She is the coach that you didn't know how much you needed!!

- Emily G.

When I first started coaching I was struggling with everything; consistency with working out, what kind of workouts to do, food, you name it! Working with Carly is different because there’s ZERO JUDGEMENT. I love that I can have good weeks and she's there cheering me on. If I'm having a rough week, she's there cheering me on. She celebrates my wins and supports my rough times. She lifts me up and helps me find the wins when I don't see them.

Since working together my confidence level has increased, I have more energy, and I have a better relationship with self care; I’m super grateful!

If you’re on the fence about coaching, do it. Immediately. It's like no other program and you won't regret it!

Before coaching, my view of nutrition was one-dimensional, focused mainly on immediate gratification. I struggled with various diets, frequently starting them but never committing fully or feeling confident about their effectiveness. Carly's approach to coaching is distinct in its emphasis on understanding the underlying principles of decision-making. She pushes us to think about 'whys' behind diet changes, providing clarity and motivation.

The overall effect of Carly's coaching became evident in my day-to-day life. Whenever I experience an energy dip or a drop in motivation, I instinctively assess my dietary choices and their impacts. This heightened awareness and understanding of the connection between diet and daily well-being is a profound and lasting change.

The personalized approach transforms not just your diet, but your entire lifestyle, offering insights and results that go far beyond generic programs. It's a step towards a deeper understanding of yourself and a healthier way of living.

My biggest struggle when I first started coaching was with eating like an athlete. I had an all or nothing attitude so every failure became another excuse to not try. I play roller derby, which is very niche. As a skater of a certain age competing with much younger teammates I really needed her guidance to up my game.

She has taken all my feedback and has programmed creative workouts that have made me stronger and faster on the track. She has been incredibly encouraging during the times I am struggling. She listens and doesn't diminish the things in life that can get in the way of health goals. I am getting the results I want without sacrificing my self esteem.

I am eating better and slowly letting go of the all-or-nothing attitude that held me back. Knowing that when life happens (and it will) I can pick back up and it is part of the journey is very freeing. I don't think I have been a part of a training/coaching program where I have felt this in control and supported.

Since I stopped working with my in-person trainer, I felt like I wouldn’t be able to continue with the momentum on my own. Also, I was convinced that in order to exercise I have to be in a good mood, which, considering my very busy schedule was very frustrating for me.

Carly is very passionate about her work. She gives more than 100%; every time I needed support or guidance she was there for me. Carly is not only a coach interested in your training and diet progress but she is also interested in your life and does what she can to help you be your best self considering the situation you are in. She pays attention to your lifestyle to give you as much help as possible and makes sure that the training plan, as well as nutrition, fits your life situation.

Since I started working with Carly I have learned to eat healthier and have built muscle and strength. I have definitely changed my all or nothing mindset and also learned that I can train regularly even if I am working long hours.

I decided to reach out to Carly at the end of the last year when I hit a slump in my training. At the time, I was going to the gym just for the sake of going, wasn't making any progress, and was pretty unhappy with my body. Since we started working together, I've lost over 30lbs, my lifting numbers have skyrocketed, and I have never felt more energized in my life. Carly's approach to training literally changed my life - she showed me how to turn working out from a dreaded chore into something I look forward to every day, how to have a sustainable and healthy diet that still allows an occasional donut or three, and most importantly she helped me add training into my life without big sacrifices.

Before I met Carly, I was struggling with consistency and motivation at the gym. Carly's thorough approach, attention to detail and attentiveness made it easy for me to implement her awesome training program. I really appreciated the time she took to get to know me as a roller derby athlete and person. I was pleasantly surprised to notice how personal each interaction felt because everything was conducted virtually.

The online program is super easy to use and navigate too which is a bonus. I saw progress quickly in roller derby practices/games and I noticed more power, strength, muscle growth overall. I would highly recommend Carly/Moxie Barbell to anyone who is looking for a personal trainer who really understands that everyone is different and unique and the value in that.

When I first came to Carly, I was trying to come back to training after a hysterectomy. I was frustrated with my current sedentary lifestyle, having been an athlete most of my life. Carly helped me change my mindset and get me back moving again. She programmed to my ability, got me focused on unilateral stability, and adjusted when things didn’t feel quite right. I’m happy to be back in an “active” place and continuing to get strong with Carly!

I was frustrated with my weight when I first joined Carly. I’m currently in school and thought the summer break would be a great time to build a routine which included working out while doing my internship. I had built some strength following my own program but had plateaued after a while and hadn’t been able to cross that threshold in over a year.

After about 4 weeks of working together, I saw that I was steadily progressing across all exercises and my weight was steadily dropping. I’ve also made a few changes in my life that are now part of my normal routine. I work out 4 times a week and I prioritize protein in most foods/snacks that I eat. These small changes have helped me maintain the progress I made over the summer as well as continue gaining strength even though I’m back in school without the same strict routine.
